I had moved onto bigger and better things (mostly staring at the wall and wondering why nobody calls me anymore). Yet here I am, a mere few months after burning my bridges, giving up on new music and making a world of enemies, back in the game. Did I miss the constant abuse, the being paid in soiled pennies and the lack of recognition which writing this unremembered column entailed? Funnily enough, I did! It was listening to the post punk genius of the new Dry Cleaning record that did it. I thought to myself ‘someone has to take it upon themselves to tell the world just how good this album is’. Apart from Jupiter Jax’s sublime Dee-Life Mix for 100% Silk earlier this year, there seems to have been a dearth of great sets recently. With clubs closed and most commercial DJ mix series having given up the fight, it almost seems as though the art of crafting a journey through other people’s records has died as an art form. Ist kein Partyhengst und keine Rampensau. Spielt er nicht gerade selber, ist er höchstwahrscheinlich nicht im Club anzutreffen. Er wirkt aus der Ruhe seines Refugiums in Norddeutschland. Christian verbindet das Sehen und Hören miteinander, indem er malt, fotografiert, Musik macht und Geräusche sammelt und zwischen ihnen übersetzt. Das Ergebnis ist melancholische, empfindsame und feingliedrige Musik. Sein neues Album, Lys, wurde Ende März in einen Ausnahmezustand hineingeboren. Livestream statt gefüllter Hallen zum Release. Jetzt sitze ich an meinem Fenster und beobachte grauen Beton, bewölkten Himmel und einen dicken Regentropfen nach dem nächsten. Ich mag dieses Bild sogar, aber ganz wollte ich Marokko dann doch noch nicht gehen lassen. Deshalb schlürfe ich arabischen Kardamom-Kaffee, meine Neuentdeckung aus Marokko, und höre etwas, dass ich entdeckt habe, als ich auf der Reise angefangen habe, mich mit der Musik der Nomaden zu beschäftigen. Das wäre das altkluge Sprichwort passend zum Anlass. Aber wenn überhaupt, dann ist »Aller Anfang schwierig« und selbst das ist nicht wahr. Außerdem habe ich es eigentlich nicht so mit Sprichworten. Und doch ist es gar nicht so einfach, sich nicht abgedroschen vorzustellen und ich grüble darüber, wie ich das elegant lösen kann. Dabei verliere ich mich allerdings nur in Gedanken und ende bei der Frage, wer ich eigentlich bin. Aber immerhin hat John mir das Bittles' Magazine für den März überlassen und vielleicht muss ich gar nicht weiter ausholen und wir lernen uns über Musik kennen. Das hat schon häufig als gute Grundlage zum Kennenlernen gedient. Heute gibt es LOUISE RINGELs aktuell liebste weiblichen DJs. Warum weiblich?
