Musik | Bill Frisell und Thomas Morgan: Small Town

Am Jahresende mal jedem Stress und jeder Hektik entfliehen: Vielleicht in Kleinstädtisches und aufs Land mit Bill Frisell und Thomas Morgan. Jazziges und Country-Bluesiges in Sounds aus kontemplativen Gitarrenlinien und Gitarrenflächen in atmosphärischen Soundlandschaften. Von TINA KAROLINA STAUNER

Bill Frisell: Small TownTribute, Reminiszenzen, Soundtracks, Erinnerungen, Neukompositionen, Improvisationen, Referenzielles, Musikpoetisches. ›It Should’ve Happened a Long Time Ago‹ ist eigentlich von Paul Motion, ›Subcionscous Lee‹ von Lee Konitz, ›What A Party‹ kommt von Fats Domino, ›Goldfinger‹ heißt ein James-Bond-Filmtrack und Country-Blues stammt im Hier und Jetzt und Heute von Bill Frisell und auch aus der Vergangenheit von Maybelle Carter und der Carter Family. Ein Stück ist Andrew Cyrille gewidmet. Frisell ist genauso in Folk- und Countrymusik heimisch wie in Neuer Musik und er ist ein Jazzer. Bekannt auch aus der namhaften New Yorker Downtown-Musikszene.

Die Liste der außergewöhnlichen Musiker, mit denen er zusammenarbeitete, ist lang. Auch Thomas Morgan war schon in diversen Bandprojekten. Beide Musiker haben im Duo ein hübsches, kleines Album live im Jazzclub ›Village Vanguard‹ in New York aufgenommen. Musik, die ein bisschen Großstadt, ein bisschen Kleinstadt, ein bisschen Provinz im Sound hat. Musik, die ruhig und schlicht dahinfließt. Gitarre und Bass im reduktionistischen und minimalistischen Zusammenspiel. Ausgesuchte Ideen und sparsame Mittel reichen für edle Saitenspielereien im Zweierlei von holzigem Kontrabass und Bagatellen und anderem Hokuspokus auf elektrischer Gitarre.

Dabei darf Musik auch mal eher karg als kompliziert sein, sich puritanisch und spartanisch mehr auf Stille als auf Lärm beziehen. Dort ist weniger mehr, wo sich Bill Frisell und Thomas Morgan als Musiker getroffen haben. Von Pat Metheny und Charlie Haden, Jim Hall und Ron Carter und Joe Pass und Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen finden sich weitere Gitarre-Bass-Duo-Alben.
